Y10 Trip to Kew Gardens
On Wednesday 25th September, 45 students from across Year 10 GCSE Fine Art, Photography, Textile and 3D Design took the opportunity to further develop their photography and recording skills when capturing their own primary sources for their course work at Kew Gardens today.
Students were capturing the wonder and awe of nature with keen focuses on colour, pattern, form, texture and shape. All students were wonderfully engaged with their individual tasks and even become competitive in who could get the best shot. The students were able to engage and experience plant and botanical forms from all around the world with humidified rooms recreating atmospheres of the rainforest or even the dry deserts of Mexico. Some students were shocked and amazed at what size and shape some plant forms can grow to and seeing a banana tree in person for the first time was even mindful boggling! Along with the designated green house rooms, the students were capturing on camera sculptures and a range of floral and natural forms all around the grounds.
The students were exemplary in their behaviour and conduct and engaged in all challenges and tasks (some including props like skulls) with maturity and an air of professionalism. It's been a brilliant opportunity for the new photography course to really get involved in some on location photo shoots.

"The giant lilypads were quite memorable and the fish was cool, they were memorable because I haven't really seen lilypads before and the fish was unexpected."
"Going into the greenhouse was the most memorable part of the day, because of the temperatures and seeing all the different exotic plants. The Kew gardens trip was enjoyable,well thought out and knowledgeable."
