Cultural Capital Trip to Margate
82 year eight students descended on to the sunny shores of Margate beach and town centre on 17th October 2024. For the majority of the students this was their first experience of visiting the coastal town. There were photography challenges capturing the excitement and colours of the local arcades, fun and games playing different activities on the beach, and some thought provoking conversations about art and life in the Turner contemporary Gallery, a first visit for many of the students.
Students represented themselves and the school wonderfully and were complimented on some of their questions and engagement in the gallery by staff members at the exhibition. The day was fittingly rounded off with a chip shop lunch by the sea.
A big thank you to all staff who supported and delivered the trip and well done to all the year 8 budding photographers and their excellent camera work. We have included some of the students' photographs in the photo gallery below.
Margate boasts many independent shops, an old town and market, lots of eateries and traditional fish and chips. The Turner contemporary is a free gallery open Tuesday to Sunday and could make for an enjoyable visit during the half term, with lots of transport links via trains.
