Life Skills Day with London Youth Rowing Club

On 30th January 2024, 8 students from out Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and School Council groups were invited to take part in a day focused on leadership.

The day began with a visit to The Port of London Office, where students learnt first hand about the importance of life skills in the workplace and future careers. They toured the offices, witnessing the coordination of water traffic and had the opportunity to assist pilots in docking a cargo ship using a high-tech simulator. One of our students even took the wheel and successfully guided the ship alongside the pilots. All students then took turns to take the wheel, navigating through various simulated weather conditions along the River Thames - a truly exhilarating experience!

Students spent the early afternoon collaborating in groups to design a new machine for cleaning up rubbish in the Thames. They presented their ideas to compete for the best concept and presentation skills, showcasing their creativity and problem-solving abilities.

We then headed to Gravesend Rowing Club, where students demonstrated teamwork by preparing rowing boats for the water and then rowed themselves along the Thames. This hands-on experience reinforced the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving common goals.

These skills aren't just applicable to future careers; they are also invaluable in their roles as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and School Council members. By honing their leadership and teamwork abilities, students will be better equipped to support their peers, advocate for positive change, and effectively address issues within our school community. The day aimed to illustrate to students how these skills are transferable across various industries and careers. By engaging in real-world scenarios and activities, students gained valuable insights into the practical application of leadership and teamwork skills beyond the classroom
